Artist Statement

After discovering a similar project by the Russian photographer Anna Gvozdovskaya (gvozdovskaya.ru/365-avtoportretov), I started looking for other photographers who had attempted a daily self-portrait year. There weren’t many, but each project was strikingly original — a unique, personal universe and a true imprint of the artist’s vision. That’s what made me want to create my own.

Starting December 1st, I will be creating one self-portrait a day for an entire year. My goal is to boost my creativity, deepen my understanding of portrait art, and finally experiment with all the ideas and techniques I’ve been postponing for so long. 

Sometimes the images will be conceptual and carefully constructed; other times they will simply reflect the day — or its essential moment. I will try to focus mainly on my own ideas, but homages to other photographs, paintings, films, or artworks will also be possible.
